Vanessa braziliensis - Brazilian Painted Lady

Vanessa braziliensis - Brazilian Painted Lady - (Brasilianohdakeperhonen)

The Brazilian Painted Lady can be found in Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. The spanish name for the butterfly is "Dama dos ojos", which means "Two Eyes Lady". This refers to the two ocelli on both sides of the hindwings.
I found braziliensis to be redder in colour than the similar V. carye which is more orange, although I wasn't lucky enough to photograph a fresh specimen to really show the beauty of this butterfly and it's color.

In 2017 I was lucky enough to photograph fresh and beautiful Brazilian Painted Ladies.
